Harriet Tubman, Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and other famous African Americans have sprung to life in the hallways of Chinook Middle School. As students walk from one class to another, they pass their classmates' hand-drawn portraits of these influential individuals. A second look reveals much more than a traditional art project.
Nominations are now open for the 2017 Gold Star Awards, sponsored by the Highline Schools Foundation. Parents, community members, business owners, and staff are encouraged to Celebrate! Highline by nominating individuals who make an impact in Highline.
A lottery was held on February 16 to select students for our secondary schools that require an application or a special program transfer. This includes CHOICE Academy, Big Picture Schools, Raisbeck Aviation High School (RAHS), and the International Baccalaureate (IB) program offered at Mount Rainier High School (MRHS).
In Highline, all students are important and valued in our schools. That message came across loud and clear at Chinook Middle School, where all 600 students received a special welcome as they arrived at school on Valentine's Day.

Making a decision about weather-related school closures is always difficult, because so many different situations have to be considered. We do our very best to balance the many interests at stake, but we recognize that no matter what decision we make, it will not please everyone.
